I live in South Korea and served mandatory military service. Every time I come across this kind of shit I lose my mind.
I understand why they need the bomb. I understand that a lot of shit on the mainstream media is not 100% faithfully true about them.
They are also crazy, inhumane, deserve way more condemnation and ultimately, consequences. To think that a country that executes people for escaping from them can be “fine”.

I feel you. I live in a country that was at the wrong (red) side of iron curtain for 40 years… Crossing border to the west was punishable by death. Why? Because for better or worse. Tanky central is the flagship development server for the Lemmy software. And if as an admin you want your issues or concerns to at least pretend to be heard. You must give the campist undue deference.
Your server at least also has a piefed interface. Don’t know if world ever will. Though I definitely would encourage it.
It seems to have worked out fine for lemmy.cafe and dubvee to defederate. But no major instance has dared.
Because the major instances are the ones most likely to need support. That and many of them good or bad try to look neutral.

it’s just the userbase is full of delusional nutcases, which is the same problem reddit has. the problem is the people on the platforms, and the fact that rage drives engagement, regardless of platform.
the level of comments on lemmy posts in the 2 years i’ve been on here is WAY WAY WAY up the past few months, but the vast majority of the posts/comments are rage bait and rage responses, and the vast majority of replies to my comments now are people telling me how stupid and dumb I am or that i’m clearly just an evil person of I don’t agree with them, often arguing at me from bad facts, bad faith, and faulty logic and accusing me of doing the thing they are doing. i think my favorite is the people who strawman, and you point out their exaggerated position, and then they accuse you of strawmanning them… oh and then they report your comment for trolling or fascism or something.
all the same things that happened to me on reddit before I left. I was on that site for 10 years with very little conflict, and then post pandemic every comment I made became controversial as the hysterical crazies took over.
Didn’t expect anything else from these people. Lemmy.world is the same though, an instance full of crazy tankies
