SSO drones also hit a Russian oil platform located at the Filanovsky oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea. The platform is owned by Russian oil company Lukoil and is used for oil and gas extraction.
that is axiomatically incorrect. smuggling is if they were to still trade via back channels directly with the sanctioning country. cf: us doing iran contra lol.
Sanctions don’t mean you cant trade. It just means you can’t use the sanctioning body’s infrastructure to do so. Just because you don’t agree with the trade doesn’t mean it is illegal or even illicit. Or do you think the US should have full control over global trade?
Is it smuggling when Cuban cigars are sold in the EU or Canada? Would the Saudi government call it smuggling when Irish Whiskey is shipped to Nigeria? Countries have no control over what other countries can trade with each other, especially if both countries have already been effectively cuttoff from saod country’s financial institutions
That’s quite a ways from Ukraine.
They may be sending a message that ships in the Caspian Sea aren’t safe either.
Sinking military ships that may have anti-sea-drone capabilities may be the first step in making it un-safe for Russian shipping.
The Caspian Sea is used to smuggle shit, mostly from Iran, to get around sanctions.
is it really “smuggling” if the sanctions are horseshit anyway?
Less parts for Shaheeds and other military applications is less dead Ukrainians.
Doesn’t change the fact that mutual trade between neighboring countries is the opposite of smuggling.
That’s nitpicking.
Illicit shipping for getting around sanctions is smuggling.
