I thought it was all right. I talked to a friend who read the novel and it seems like my complaints would be resolved by the story being told…as a novel.
The best parts were the culture shock Anjin felt and there’s only so many ways to express that with your face. The actor was OK but I don’t even think the BEST actor could pull it off. I wish the whole thing was longer. I wanted to stew in 1600s Japan for a bit.
The book ends the same way as the season but without all the obvious set up for a season 2.
