Can a Mapleborn explain how their constitution works in this instance? Can a province just opt out of a national law?
Criminal law is a federal matter so once the grace period ends possession of banned firearms will become illegal whatever any provincial government has to say about it. However, administration of the law is within the purview of the provinces so they have a lot of input in the sense of when to investigate, lay charges, etc.
The province is definitely looking to pick a fight with the federal government over this.
