  • Well. Buses and trucks are usually not as tightly integrated as, say, the operating system of a computer, or the inverter of a photo voltaic system. So to disable this telemetry and over the air update capability, you can simply unplug the connectivity ECU (or its fuse). It will likely trigger a warning indication on the driver instrument cluster, but that’s it.

An easy fix like this is not really there for windows or other Microsoft infrastructure.

And to your point that things are being done to reduce the dependency on Microsoft… I have yet to see any serious efforts in this direction. All I have read about are relatively small instances.

  • Over the air updates and remote diagnostics are both things that are sold as features and are often even requested by the transportation companies.

To be honest I am a bit surprised that they are surprised this exists.

To be completely honest: there are even ECE regulations regarding software updates over the air.

This is nothing new and nothing special. Almost all vehicles these days are connected to their manufacturer.

Also regarding deactivating this „feature“. It is usually quite simple, just unplug the connectivity ECU.

  • Again. LLMs don’t know anything. They don’t have a „knowledge base“ like you claim. As in a database where they look up facts. That is not how they work.

They give you the answer that sounds most likely like a response to whatever prompt you give it. Nothing more. It is surprising how good it works, but it will never be 100% fact based.
