I guess the real pisser here was that the online component worked just fine. They made an active decision to just cut off linux players which was a real dick move.

I played GTA V online with three of my friends, and had about 900 hours of play. Then one day, bam, they literally cut anyone using Linux off from being able to connect to the servers. It just leaves a real bad taste in my mouth, because I would have probably gone to RDR2 next, and might have even bought RDR on my Switch. Voting with my wallet is all I can do, and at this point it feels like voting for a president. My tiny little vote won’t really amount to much, but hey at least I can feel good about standing on my principals. Like someone else said, they have 30 year backlog of games, and I have similar. So not playing either GTA V online anymore or buying GTA VI won’t really affect me in the long run as far as hindering my enjoyment of other games so there’s that…

Well that’s a ripe take on this. Evidently you don’t know anyone who runs Linux and played GTA V online. Rockstar can fuck right off for what they pulled. Definitely didn’t earn any trust, and Windows users should be wary as well since they did that with no notice and no fucks given to a portion of their paid users.

I had two giant servers sitting under my desk when bitcoin started up. I was trying to decide whether to put them to work mining bitcoin or using them for seti at home. Well I decided to go with seti. And I am actually complacent with that decision, because had I got into bitcoin I know that I would have some sort of anxiety over when I sold, or what I paid for something like a pizza. Software “passing” a written test where it has been fed all of the answers is not that impressive to me, except from a programming standpoint. From the intelligence standpoint, not so much. Well, I guess being an old guy and having never correlated someone’s computer background to any kind of meaning other than they like that particular background, I guess I don’t see anything into it. But hey, I work with a bunch of terminals all day long so there’s not an opportunity to customize things there, and the one work machine that has a gui, I have just left the background as the default. Wow. Sorry that happened. As a long time linux user I am really unhappy with the way Ubuntu has gone recently. Enough so that when I was dropping in my new video card I didn’t even consider using that distro anymore. The whole snap thing just rubbed me wrong, and on top of that I was getting a message that if I didn’t join their subscription thing, that I wouldn’t get all of the updates available. Now there were explanations that that wasn’t the actual case, but their wording just really rubbed me wrong, even if it was a ‘free’ subscription for up to five machines, etc. Back to your situation, I think it might be time to explore some other distros as they might be a better fit for you, and more of a plug and play experience for you. My suggestion would be to install a VM like Virtualbox and then download some .iso files and use them on some new virtual machines that you can run and get a basic idea of how they work/look/feel. After you find one that fits your needs you can migrate. Just remember, when people start giving you grief, just give them the old grep -v… That will make them go away.

I am confused, because you ask for it to be more plug and play, complain about using the terminal to install, and then say you gave up and installed it the plug and play way by using the Ubuntu store. It reads like you are complaining that you have to drive to another city and you aren’t getting there in time because you are pushing the car. So you eventually get in and drive the car and insist that pushing it was “the right way”…
