Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s a cheap purchase that’s completely changed your life?
1·6 hours agoCheap thrills? I’m trying to think of other fun little things I’ve nabbed. I always stock up on paper towels for the car from the gas station, but those are “free”. Oh! In the gun section of the hardware store there’s a parts drawer cabinet just like the ones for nuts and bolts just gun hardware. There’s a pile of “complimentary” tweezers, I have quite a few.

2·8 hours agoThank you for what you do, we need more people in the world like you.
My wife and I have pretty much decided on no kids. She works at a daycare so she gets plenty of time with kiddos, and doesn’t know if she wants one at home, all the time. Me, I have such a huge slew of my own problems that I really don’t think I would be capable of being a good parent. I was raised with the whole world on my plate, middle class, vacations, presents, not spoiled rotten but certainly privileged. If I can’t provide at least the kind of childhood that I had, the opportunities, the travel, I would feel guilty. And I know that I don’t have the resources for that.
So we have always left adoption or fostering on the table. Maybe as the years pass I will heal and grow and be capable of providing the steady stable environment that a child in need requires. Until then I get to be the irresponsible uncle to all my friends kids. Gonna take a 7 year old skiing later this winter lol.

Even if that’s not the legislation in the US, it’s the fact of the matter here as well. No new car comes without a stupid screen in the dash
I was told by a native American at school in Montana that there is internal debate about what they ought to be called. In some opinions, “Native American” is just as much a name they didn’t give themselves as “Indian” was. But that was one guy I was friends with so I don’t know how widespread that opinion is.
I figured I’d take some flack, but c’mon, who wasn’t thinking it. It’s not something I think I have ever said aloud.

I live in Maine and the market is so flooded nobody can even grow straight for the black market and compete anymore, it’s all spills over from licenced grows. $80/oz for top shelf if you look around a little, $100 if you don’t. It’s almost impossible to spend more than $200. That has to be having farther reaching effects.

World News@lemmy.world•Alex Honnold completes live Netflix free solo climb of Taipei 101 without safety gearEnglish
11·7 days agoI am telling you that the early part of the climb is very easy. Large holds, big cracks, very obvious chalking and easy route finding.
And if you are comparing jumping a motorcycle across the snake river to free climbing, the cost of entry is absolutely a factor in how dangerous broadcasting the stunt is. Again, the former requires a jump, a pretty big fucking jump. That requires engineering, fabrication, materials. It required a permit, to build that infrastructure in that location at that time. It is not an equivalent comparison to purchasing shoes and going for a drive. Not to mention the people that already had gear but not enough experience to fully understand the danger

73·7 days agoI strongly believe everyone is free to do as they wish and die how they please. It is the act of broadcasting and glorifying and downplaying the danger of something as stupid as free climbing.

36·7 days agoThe false equivalence comparing Evel and Honold is wild. One took way more money than the average dope has, was obviously promoted as reckless as fuck, and did nearly kill him a bunch of times.
Compare that to the cost of a chalk bag, shoes, and a park pass, and tons more morons will be able to emulate their equally moronic idol.
Also, who here knows anything about El Cap? It’s a fucking cake walk for the first 1000 feet, then it gets technical. So now some dipshit that watched free solo is a thousand feet of the valley floor and panicking, unable to climb farther up and absolutely incapable of downclimbing, which is much harder.

Yea, a subscription might be the easiest way. I would love a way to capture the video to my drive, is that the ott route? I don’t have an android tv box and have heard of it. IPTV is definitely a good suggestion that I hadn’t considered, do you have any recommendations?
