I hate that LG left the market. A LOT of innovation came from them, including a lot of quircky (and often cool) features. They experimented a lot which didn’t always work out, but often it did work out great and it made their phones a lot more exciting then most other brands. Because of this a lot of features that are now the industry standard, like having a wide-angled camera lens, were popularized by LG. And yet, somehow, most people don’t know this and always saw it as a lesser brand.
That’s completely normal, and a large portion of people here in Europe would do the same as you do. There is this saying where “people in North America life to work, people in Europe work to life”. Because who cares if you make more money if you barely have the time to actually enjoy it?
Not trying to say one continent is better than the other, but it is a very clear difference in work-life balance mentality.
One of the reasons why I would buy a repairable phone is it’s reliability in the long run. For instance, my previous phone, a Nokia, had a broken USB-C port. Replacing it would be pretty hard to do myself, or expensive to let somebody else do it. And that is if you can find replacement parts at all. One of the main benefits of a phone like the Fairphone, is that I can just order a new port from the manufacturer for a low price, without any unexpected costs, and replace it in 15 minutes. I still have some photo’s on that phone because they were not automatically backed up. The Nokia also was pretty unusable even when it worked, because the software was borderline criminally bad. However, the bootloader was locked so I couldn’t change it.
buying a second ahnd flagship is also a great way to save a bit on the environment, but it’s won’t be as reliable, the condition of the battery will probably be worse and you’ll have to watch out that you don’t buy a phone that doesn’t get any updates anymore (or at least has a unlocked bootloader if you’re willing to flash a custom ROM)
Yes, it does have a microSD card slot. The website isn’t the most clear website ever, but if you click on “Specifications” and then “See all specifications” everything will be shown, including a MicroSD card slot
In that case I’m afraid I don’t know any solution, hopefully you’ll find something that fits your needs. If you needed to cast Youtube-videos and such, I would’ve shared my own bodged method that combines KDE Connect, MPV and a regex-enabled fork of “handlr”.
Do you specificly want to cast your screen? Or do you want to cast things like YouTube videos and music?
Love the app and this roadmap looks like something to look forward to!
I’m experiencing a bug though, and have some suggestions that I wanted to share. If you need any more info/dumps for the bug, feel free to reach out.
The bug: the info on my own profile page has not been retrieving new information. The last comment that is shown to me, is this one, even though I’ve made a lot more comments since. It is also notable that the app shows it as a comment that was posted “one month ago”, while the website tells me it’s a two month old comment.
Suggestion/bug: When writing a comment, the button to add an URL works not as expected. When I select a text and press the button, I expect it to use the selected text to fill in the " Text"-textbox with that text, so I can easily add a URL to a text that has already been typed. Right now, it does not fill in the textbox automatically and when I tap “OK”, it overwrites the original text. Would be a great QoL improvement to autofill this.
Suggestion: I don’t know if this option is included in the customization part of the roadmap, but I would really appreciate an option to male the bottom bar sticky, or in other words: to be able to disable the auto hide functionality. I understand why people prefer the larger screen space, but personally I prefer the consistency of a locked bar. Maybe with an additional quick setting to switch between manually hide/show/autohide the bar?
Suggestion: An option to customize your quick settings, preferably with all regular options available so you can really customize it to your liking.
Suggestion: Option to give set specific themes to specific accounts. I think it could be a great visual indication if you could tie a theme to an account. So for instance: when I’m logged into this account, my app uses a red theme, but when I switch to a different account, the app uses a yellow theme.
Edit: I also just noticed that this post shows up as a 5 hour old post, but the comments are up to (almost) a month old.
I think a LoRaWAN based tracker might be perfect for you. I’ve been keeping an eye on the Loko myself:
Thunder had been my favorite Lemmy app for a while now. I’ve tried others and some have a lot of potential, but Thunder is the app that does most things the way I like it. Congrats on the launch!
Those are great names! I would subscribe to more communities with names like that.
I really like that name. Way better than Earthporn. Thank you for sharing, I subscribed!

the linux command line
And for that, I recommend Linux Journey. They have some resources on networking too!
Awesome! I can’t wait!
Very exciting! And Sync for Lemmy is even more exciting! Question, do you plan on adding Kbin support in the future? Maybe when their API is released?
It has quickly become one of my favourite games when I started playing a few months back. I mainly play on PC with a few QoL mods, but I think it works great on a smart phone as well! Great game to have in your pocket! The only bad thing I’ve encountered on Android, is that the cursor in the menu does not become visible when you’ve a controller connected. It’s there, but you can´t see it. Kinda annoying, but I could fix this by forcing it with a mod (I forgot which one, but I can look it up if you want). It’s one of my favourite games to play when I just want to chill without thinking too much.
Stardew Valley, Xenowerk and Don’t Starve Pocket Edition.
It’s a reference to an old reddit post. In the post, the OP explained they had a knife at their toilet for poop that got stuck, hence the poopknife. It was only later in life when they asked a friend for their “poop knife”, when they discovered that nobody else has a knife like that and how weird it is.
