This is partly true, but regulations do allow for a computer screen digital version of the basic safety display, as long as it can be demonstrated to be reliable and work without other systems like the infotainment system, and many manufacturers have implemented this.
IMO I think the answer to the OP is “it was a stylistic choice”
I tried Liftoff, Connect, and Jerboa, and settled on Jerboa.
Interesting, the tiny size (5cm x 5cm) and FPC connector for capacitive touch screen make me think of a portable hotspot, but there’s no wireless. The support for CAN 2.0 and RS485 make me wonder if that SoC was originally designed in the automotive or aeronautic business.

I had some struggles with consciousness persisting until I learned about the cognitive shuffle technique.
So if this is you, look up cognitive shuffling. Doesn’t work for everybody but worth a try.
