If you count the Panama Canal and squint, you can make an argument. Not so much for the above.

I see two impostors, not one. Asia and Europe.
Agree, but security theater is more important, clearly.
The liquids are not allowed because they mess with explosive detectors. Not because anyone thinks they are dangerous.
It’s not “we don’t allow liquids cause they may be explosive”. It’s “we don’t allow liquids cause if you have any in your luggage, we won’t be able to correctly detect explosives you might also have”.
That’s why some airports now allow liquids. Newer scanners can detect explosives even in luggages that also contain liquids.
Nobody thinks your bottle of water is dangerous. But your bottle of water will prevent the explosives detector from working.

It’s not “too dangerous to allow liquid on a plane”. It’s “we can’t detect explosives in your luggage if there are also liquids in it”.
I used the Android app Boost for Reddit. One day I opened it as usual, browsed as usual, but something felt a bit odd. Turns out it was updated into being a Lemmy app instead. Fair enough then, I continued my scrolling.
It was NOT found to be untrue. Full stop. It was found to be unsubstantiated.
You are right, I was imprecise. What I meant is that “it was not found to be true”, not that “it was found to be not true”.
Yeah, he was stupid to have that idea. But nobody was actually wronged in the end.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds with Linus Sebastian (Linus Tech Tips)
21·8 days agoI think it looks good for the integrity of Linus that he took the blame and never revealed the identity of the logistics employee that made the mistake of misassigning the prototype for the auction. He could’ve easily thrown them under the bus and fired them instead, because their mistake did real reputational damage to the company.

It was found to be an untrue allegation by a third party. You can of course choose to not believe them, but there was never any proof and everyone who works there denies it (and a lot of women work there), so take of that what you will.
poor work life balance
Very true
anti union
Linus is not anti-union. He said he would consider it a personal failure if his employees felt the need to unionize, but he supports their right to do so.
The warranty for his (I think it was a) backpack, was trust me bro.
To be fair, the warranty was proposed to be “trust me bro”, the community very much didn’t like that, so it actually came with a real warranty when it launched. So it never actually happened.

Yeah, and for a top-down game depth is up/down. You know, like depth being… Deep down.
Except when you are working on top-down game/3D environment. In which case you are constantly changing between Z and Y…

1·13 days agoYeah, which is what I said. It’s great, but an alternative solution is an alternative solution. If someone is sharing a file to a group with Airdrop, you are not receiving it with localsend.

Then you don’t count Africa either?
In fact if it has to be surrounded by an ocean then there are only two continents, Antarctica and everything else. You can cross them all without entering an ocean, only seas.
