Not OP and I get your point but I think if people are generally trying to figure out the correct words for things, esp when those things could upset someone, we should try to be a bit less dismissive. If someone uses the wrong word for a thing in my field (and it is a case where it actually matters) I try to gently correct them. OP seems sincere here, people are curious, and both of those are things to be encouraged I think. That said, I can understand how when you’re having these interactions every day it can be exhausting.

This is, actually not a bad idea. Someone send this to someone like Jack White. Get together a bunch of top musicians to actually fund the creation of a network of publicly owned venues. They can share resources and even pay artists real wages for performances. Call it a public option. Just needs the seed money

Yes but there still are externalized costs. We burned so much fossil fuel that the climate changed and now we are burning more to keep things cool in the warming climate. So they aren’t impacting the grid per se in this specific instance but they are still snowballing the problem. Which would be more understandable if they provided some real value to society. I’d also be curious about how often data centers are actually impacted by RAS load shedding schemes.

Yeah this is having a huge negative impact on industry. New grads expect step by step process for every task. Every year there is less ability to solve problems. I don’t know what the solution is but even if we remove llms from the conversation we have an issue with graduates not being able to problem solve. Add on top of that the influence of social media and the constant fear of being wrong and you end up with paralysis once these individuals enter the workforce and are required to solve bespoke problems.
