World News@lemmy.world•Vaping likely to cause lung and oral cancer, Australian researchers find in new review of evidenceEnglish
1·6 hours agoEach milliliter of albuterol sulfate inhalation solution 0.083% contains 0.83 mg of albuterol (as 1 mg of albuterol sulfate) in an isotonic, sterile, aqueous solution containing sodium chloride; sulfuric acid is used to adjust the pH to between 3 and 5. Albuterol sulfate inhalation solution 0.083% contains no sulfiting agents or preservatives.
Seems like they just use pH-adjusted salt water for it? Been looking for more data but I’m having trouble finding anything that isn’t behind stupid paywalls.

83·6 hours agoafaik the bases of e-juice were studied for ingestion, not inhalation.
edit: i was thinking of diacetyl which is sometimes used as a flavoring additive and caused a bunch of lung injury in the early days of microwave popcorn manufacturing. While looking through these I stumbled upon vitamin e acetate (used as a condensing agent in vape products) and it sounds none to good for you either. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6952050/

2·2 days agoyeah, i have 32gb and it still feels excessive. even with plex, firefox, steam and discord going i’m only at 8 gigs of usage. all i do on my desktop is game though, i have a server for virtualization and stuff.
Magisk twice is killing me.
I think I read this article too. It makes sense in a way.
What explains the connection between Hooters waitresses and young gay men? Perhaps these women — so often stigmatized as almost sex workers, so accustomed to society’s sidelong glances — see kindred spirits in the boys who aren’t quite “right.” Or maybe it’s simpler: a waitress’s knack for reading a room, turned tender for those who need it most.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is cryptocurrency good for anything?English
10·4 days agoMy understanding is this. Let’s say Valve accepted crypto payments. If they did, they wouldn’t need to go through middlemen payment processors like Visa and Mastercard that can use their influence to dictate what games can and can’t be published on Steam.
But yeah the way it works in practice seems to make crypto a commodity, not a currency.

you have to acknowledge the other person first, then you can jump into your story. otherwise it comes off as self-centered instead.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•It's sad that people completely misunderstand what Star Trek is about.English
7·6 days agoNaw. It was originally written for Kirk and Uhura, but when the NBC executives found out they were worried it would offend TV stations in the south. The idea of having Uhura and Spock kiss was brought up because Spock is half-vulcan (which NBC thought racists would find less offensive???), but Shatner insisted that they stick the original script (perhaps out of ego, perhaps out of artistic integrity, who knows). Eventually NBC ordered that two versions of the scene be shot - one with the kiss and one without. Shatner intentionally flubbed every single take of the non-kiss version to force the executives’ hands. It wasn’t the first interracial kiss on televion, but it was the first instance of a scripted kiss between a white man and a black woman.

2·6 days agoIn short, LXDE was the measured as the fastest desktop environment for gaming, while XFCE with compositor disabled came in second fastest out of the ones tested. If you need the maximum performance XFCE may be a good compromise between looks vs performance. You can use the “Disable desktop effects” option in Lutris which may reduce the overhead of the desktop environment further.
any idea how this would compare to starting steam directly from a display manager using gamescope as the compositor?
