Since I saw a lot of people with a real profile: she or they pronouns please :) You don’t need to know anything else about me.

  • Same here, these subs just aren’t the reason why I used to be on reddit or why I’m on lemmy now. I used to be low profile on reddit (and actually liked when people thought I was the allo-cis-het man they assumed me to be because it made my posts look so funny at times), but I’ve found lemmy to be less misogynistic so far and I’ve seen a fair amount of users with pronouns and fairly filled out profiles so I thought I’d give mine a try too. So far nobody has ever used them, but we’ll see.

This isn’t meant to bash OP’s cause, I’m sure someone finds these communities useful, it’s just not for me.

  • 18/24 and I’ve never even finished reading LotR or gotten around to getting an antidepressant prescription. I did borrow the Simarillion from the library for months though, opened it a couple times but never got around to reading it. I just know a little bit about Tolkien’s linguistics and the way drug brand names work, but I got scared once I got one wrong.

  • muggedTassi@feddit.detoPrivacy@lemmy.mlWhat are some things you donate to?

I used to donate 5€ per year to Wikipedia since 2019 but I’ve stopped in 2022 because humanitarian related funds for Ukraine had taken priority and I haven’t resumed them since because Wikipedia’s begging has become almost unbearable to me (as well as some other reasons). Might donate something again this year if I can bring myself to look past the stuff I dislike about Wikipedia.

Edit: and I run a Snowflake proxy if that counts as donating?

  • Fully agree.
I’m one of those people who migrated to tumblr after the Reddit exodus (tbh I did have tumblr beforehand, but my usage increased a lot when the API bullshit happened). After using it for around 10 months I’ve come to the conclusion while yes, it is good for fandom related content, memes and some other things it’s simply no replacement for reddit (it’s actually more of a replacement for my fandom instagram to me). Yeah you can follow hashtags or topics, but tumblr is too niche of a platform and a lot of the topics I care about the average tumblr user doesn’t even think of, or at least not to the extent I do.
If you want a reddit replacement Lemmy is simply your best option. If you want a Twitter replacement then yeah, go ahead and use Mastodon.

  • I’ve been using barinsta for a while now, and while it crashes sometimes and often takes ages to load my feed (I follow around 150 accounts) it’s way better than the official app imo and enough to browse and occasionally react to my friend’s messages. My one rule is to never post my face and I don’t upload pictures of people in general, but I guess that depends on what you have to use it for. On and obviously no location tags in posts, but I don’t think I have to explain that on a privacy instance ^^’
