The people in this thread that ignore valid reasons for disdain towards AI are exhausting. “Just let me lol at thing and move on.” Me, I miss the days of even just drawing a meme up in MS Paint. I don’t want this Uncanny Valley dog shit. It’s not actual intelligence, it exists solely because of theft, and it’s ruining the environment.
I have avoided working for the FAANG companies my entire career and I’m happier for it.
Dude sounds like he’s just some confused fishing buddy that a friend hired.
I recommend skipping the article and instead skimming through the TED talk. It at least sounds like they’re using it as a tool to assist their artists, but the end result still has the same exact uncanny valley look we see on every AI video any ol’ person on the internet can make.
And there is where art truly goes to die. Suddenly every creative outlet is using the same tools and everything comes out with the same exact weird sheen. ILM is supposed to be a pioneer in this stuff and I respect that they’re not straight up replacing artists (yet) with this, but they’re ultimately sacrificing any aesthetics they’ve employed for years.
At the end of the day, all of this stuff boils down to speed, and that endless increase in speed is driven… by capitalism. We’re sacrificing aspects of our creative processes so that we can churn more out, instead of taking the time needed to make something truly unique.
Something tells me the amount of clicks that button gets is way, way lower than Google will ever admit.
Damn, you are living the life.
America has been dead to me for years. It’s a crumbling empire and I have no respect for any of its leadership. I will never give up on myself or the working class, but we have far too much rabid individualism and egos to work together.
The people will weather the storm and come out the other side, albeit differently, but any semblance of government here is trash. Both parties are nothing but greed-driven parasites and everyone knows it. The new generations aren’t fooled by the same bullshit propaganda and the ruling class knows it. That’s why they’re ruling with an iron fist and the cops have zero accountability.
Cop cities going up everywhere; a military base on every continent; Israeli money weaving into everything; the Democrats are useless fucks; the Republicans are unmasked fascists. This country is in the final stages of late capitalism. I don’t want to live here and haven’t for years, but I persevere for family and friends. I’ve already told my wife if a revolution ever happens, I’m probably going to be the 65-year-old man that dies in it.
This is something my fellow Americans need to come to terms with:
This kind of thing will 100% kill any chance of me buying another Switch.
This game is so much fun, even when I’m the loner getting my ass handed to me on my sloop (which is most of the time). Seeing a ship looming in the distance and wondering if it’s going to come after you is such a rush.
Quake 3 Instagib.
This. The company I work at has had a few devs that transitioned from full-time QA to frontend dev. If you can write Cypress tests, there are companies that need it, and you’ll get to learn a codebase while you’re at it.
Good, good. Now convince MAGA folks to drink the koolaid together…
You can look at China right now, especially in the context of the US basically shitting the bed completely, and see success. It also depends on what you’re using to determine what “success” is. If the marker for comparison is a capitalist country… lol we see how well that’s playing out.
No system or place is perfect, but the US has trillions of dollars at its disposal and does zero for its people. Meanwhile, even folks with a meager income can live a comfortable life in China. I’ve heard this verbatim from Americans that have lived there—some of which for 15+ years.
LOL this is pathetic. “We asked the cult members what they think of their cult leader.”
The point though is that I ultimately don’t care for wealth. Stocks and indexes would be playing into the same billionaire game that I would be trying to steer away from (albeit an impossible feat to dodge entirely).
I would probably use it in local governments to provide housing and better shelters for the poor; donate to programs that help children in underrepresented communities; buy materials for schools; contribute to mental health services and police reform (through community-lead programs).
I was lucky enough to witness managers deal with this ahead of time. Plus, I just know myself and I know that I shouldn’t be managing other people. I have ADHD and my executive dysfunction makes me a terrible decision maker. I learned my limits and stuck to them.
I can see that. I’d hope I could offset it by actually dumping my personal funds into working class programs and offer direct relief, but I know it’s a stupid thought exercise. The reality is that I’ve been in tech for years and have always actively avoided FAANG companies, and any and all paths that lead to corporate or management.
The only road to being a billionaire is through exploitation. If you aren’t willing to sacrifice your morals somewhere along the path to get there, your journey to being a billionaire ends. Like it or not, that’s the reality. Gates is no better than the others. He just has better PR. There’s more to being a good member of humanity than giving away money for the tax breaks and PR. Working class folks defending billionaires in 2025 is some goldfish brain type shit.
I keep one in my travel wire pouch thingy.
