Ahh this is awesome. Funny enough, before I was a web dev, I was a graphic artist. Showing my age as well, my first version of Photoshop was 5 and I learned how to edit on old PowerMacs in high school. In the early 2000s I was on a forum with a similar group of folks. I think I was the only one with formal training, so I’d design forum signatures for everyone, as well as show people how to do their own graphics (as well as where to ahem acquire the software to do so).

I got into IRC and all of those tools late in life, but forums were fun back in the day.

I always wanted to checkout Siggraph but never got the chance.

I used to have a small crew that I would play Left For Dead 1 and 2 on Xbox with. We would all get on mics and get drunk and/or high the whole time. When random people hopped in to play humans vs zombies matches, we would hype them and welcome them. Always tried to be the group that didn’t deter players or talk shit. Had a lot of fun sessions that would go to 3 or 4 AM. I haven’t seen them online in ages.

I bet! I’m gonna go that route. My wife just likes watching me play games, so I always try to share the experience with her. Control might become the late night game I play after she’s asleep. I love the work Remedy puts into their games.

I just completed the first Alan Wake (again) and then finished Alan Wake 2 after it. Now I’m playing Alan Wake: American Nightmare. I started playing Control too, but it has a lot of sounds and visuals that bother my wife, so I’ve shelved that one for the time being.

Yeah, I’ve been keeping track of that one and they are trying to get him removed from any sort of leadership role over the community.

I definitely buy more than 2 games per year, but the types of games I buy and the maximum price I’m willing to pay has changed. Almost everything I buy now is from indie devs, and I’m very selective of the larger studio games I’ll buy (right now, for example, I’m cranking through Alan Wake 2 after replaying the first one).

Which is not even remotely true. One is a garbage word used to insult an entire race that was enslaved for decades. The other is for corporate AI that has no humanity and was created on the backs of the working class, in order to undermine and in some cases, replace the worker. I use the ElfHosted extension as a fallback when Torrentio has a rough day. I don’t like the way it displays data like seeders, file size, etc, but it works well for getting results in a pinch.
