This is an interesting post because it mixes valid arguments with bogus just well enough to give the tankies (yeah, I’m talking to you) a defensible fall-back position. The Ukrainian military has a Neo-Nazi problem: Undeniable. Is that also a cornerstone of Russian anti-Ukrainian propaganda? Youbetcha. In comes the dog-whistle. Ukraine losing the war right now: Yup, unfortunate reality, though they seem to be fighting with every nail and tooth. “Losing the war”, yes, but not “Lost the war already”. And Russia is paying with heavy losses for that. And let’s not forget that this is only the case because Ukrainian allies (Hey, that meme shows a corner of the EU flag, what a coincidink) don’t get their shit together and put boots on the ground themselves; otherwise the power balance would look quite differently. Everyone, including the Russian military, expected the war to be over in a week (by official statements, anyway). Yet here we are, even though Ukraine is fighting one of the largest conventional armies in the world. Oh, and lastly: Enlighten me, how is Ukraine, not Russia, the Imperialist in this war?!

I wonder if a strict divide into planner and worker agents really is the best design for swarms. In the spirit of stigmergy, swarm intelligence emerges from every agent performing both of these roles according to their current context. I also wonder how much more performance could be gained by updating model weights as the swarm churns, either of every agent on their own or of every agent class. This would be the truer representation of learned behavior than the field journal described in this article, and it would also implement lessons from context drift and ‘LLM sleep’ from earlier this year. Impressive publication, nonetheless.

Fully agree. That said, the Antarctic research stations do have their own subculture and their own accent, so that much will likely occur on a lunar base, too.

I recently saw a scatter plot somewhere, I believe it was speed vs energy efficiency or something body weight vs cost of transport. And all animals, as well as most modes of transport follow a roughly anti-proportional relationship on a log-scale. If you’re fast heavy, you use a lot of energy. If I remember it right, the fastest most efficient animal was the salmon (?). There was one single outlier from that trend, an animal that is much too fast and much too efficient for its weight at the same time: Human on a bike.

Yes, but at least here I can choose an instance in a privacy friendly jurisdiction or one that is small enough, including a self-hosted one. It’s not a perfect shield, but federation helps a lot with digital independence (which is why it’s prominent in pre-internet theories of how to make anarchy work without collapsing into warlordism).

Agreed. Lemmy, while being very new, mimics features of ye olden times. Newsgroup era and all… But Reddit kinda started that way and then, as all good things, slowly enshittified. It seemed to resist enshittification longer than most sites. At least that was my impression. But good things can’t last. There’s no such thing as a free lunch, after all, I guess.

Here I am, not enough hands for all the cookies and kitties. Haven’t used Reddit in months and perfectly happy without it. Still sharing my sadness about seeing “the old internet” slip further and further down that slope.

There is LibreLynx Lite on F-Droid, but it is very bare bones. Do not recommend, especially while IronFox exists.

Rarely. I would say that about 19/20 pages work as expected. I do keep a manually hardened Firefox install on my device for the rare site that I do want to visit but that doesn’t load in IronFox for some reason. In my experience, VPN breaks the internet more than IronFox does. And I still want to use VPN.
