Disaster. It’s not just personal communication that uses the internet, it’s banking, research, security, all sorts of infrastructure things that you don’t necessarily interact with directly.

If you shut off the local Internet overnight, then half the world wouldn’t be able to communicate with the other half.

8pm thru 12am is prime time for streaming. Netflix would need to pivot or go out of business.

Since most phones networks now operate over IP, overnight customer service would break. The US can no longer use call centers in India for daytime call centers.

Batch jobs requiring Internet access can no longer run overnight. Instead they would need to run during the day, tying up bandwidth and CPU for other users. System engineers would need to take this into consideration.

It would be more difficult to coordinate with friends when going out at night. You could no longer order an Uber at 2am if you’re drunk off your ass. DWI events would increase.

Beyond the ridiculous social effects and lack of access to information, including in emergencies, it would make international collaboration impossible. Bye bye Australia, it was nice knowing you.

One of those ideas that emerges from a complete failure to understand structures as opposed to individual actions. Stomp on the thing I don’t like. Reminds me of KOSA.

Honestly, this is just a random ass question to generate discussion like if that were to even happen.

      It’s not like, something I’m 'advocating ’ for…

I think you need some chamomile tea

I didn’t accuse you of advocating for it. You didn’t explain why you posted the thread or say a single word about what you thought. Which is why my comments were not addressed to you.

Maybe you should try that tea?

I wouldn’t be able to track busses or trains to plan my commute home after work. I wouldn’t be able to stream music while making my kids’ breakfast and lunches before school.

People would use VPNs of some sort to get connectivity from the other regions.
